The Australian car market pattern has reshaped the plunge of fuel vehicles by 30%! Electrification accelerates strong brand growth in China
Recently, we learned from relevant channels that according to the latest data, the total sales volume of new cars in Australia in April 2026 was 92,591 units, an increase of 2.2% year-on-year. Among them, the sales volume of pure electric vehicles was 15,185 units, accounting for 16.4%, equivalent to 1 pure electric model for every 6 new cars sold, a record high. At the same time, sales of traditional fuel vehicles have fallen sharply, ushering in a shift in the market landscape. The collective explosion of electrified models coincided with a decline in sales in the fuel vehicle market. Gasoline vehicle sales plunged 30.1% year-on-year and diesel vehicles fell 21.7% in the month. In addition to policy incentives for electrified models, crude oil supply has been affected, and oil prices have risen or even experienced sporadic shortages, which is also an important reason for the cooling of fuel vehicles. In terms of sub-models, the BYD Sealion 7 (Sea Lion 07) won the pure electric model with a record of 1,780 units. Although the Tesla Model Y rose 193.6% year-on-year, it sold nearly 1,000 units less than the Sea Lion 07. The BYD brand sold 7,702 units overall, ranking second in the brand list. Geely EX5 (Galaxy E5 (parameter | inquiry)), Jikrypton 7X and other Chinese brand models also performed brilliantly, with 403 Model 3 sales and 370 BYD Seals in the sedan segment. The brand ranking ushered in a major reshuffle, and although Toyota's sales fell by 21.6% year-on-year, it still ranked first with 15,185 vehicles. BYD moved up to second, squeezing out second- and third-placed Ford and Mazda, which are now in fifth and sixth place. Kia and Hyundai are third and fourth, while the Ford Ranger remains second in the single-model list, behind the Toyota RAV4.
