Built on the Multi-Pathway Platform! Next-Generation Corolla to Be Locally Built by FAW Toyota in 2028!
Recently, media reports stated that Toyota will begin mass production of the next-generation Corolla in China in 2028. The new model will be based on Toyota's Multi-Pathway Platform, which is compatible with multiple powertrains, including all-electric, hybrid and pure petrol.
The new concept Corolla was unveiled at the 2025 Tokyo Motor Show, featuring a completely new design style that is quite futuristic.
According to insiders from Toyota, the new Corolla will not only come in an electric version but also plans to offer plug-in hybrid, hybrid, and pure fuel versions.
The Multi-Pathway Platform has already been applied to high-end models such as the new Lexus ES. Through this platform, Toyota can further accelerate the development of new models and reduce production costs.
The next-generation Corolla is expected to enter local production at FAW Toyota in 2028.
Notably, on October 8, Toyota signed a new strategic cooperation framework agreement with its two Chinese joint-venture partners, China FAW and GAC Group.
GAC Group plans to acquire, through a share issuance, the 50% stake in FAW Toyota held by China FAW. After the deal closes, FAW Toyota will continue to exist as an independent operating entity, while China FAW will become an important strategic shareholder of GAC Group.
Going forward, FAW Toyota and GAC Toyota will jointly take on R&D, procurement, production and sales for the joint venture.
