Responding to regulatory requests, Tesla FSD changed its name to Tesla Driver Assistance

Recently, Tesla China's official website adjusted the relevant naming system for driver assistance, and the relevant titles such as "FSD" and "fully automatic driving capability" were unified as "Tesla driver assistance". At present, Tesla China's official website has removed the word "FSD". This adjustment follows domestic norms, and Level 2 assisted driving is strictly prohibited from using expressions that are likely to cause cognitive misleading, such as "fully automatic" and "automatic driving". Officials also clarified that the driver must be monitored throughout the driving process of Tesla's driver assistance system and must not be taken off hand. On May 21, Tesla just announced the implementation scope of the supervised version of FSD, including the Chinese market. The adjusted "Tesla Assisted Driving" price is still 64,000 yuan. According to the official report, this feature includes all the functions of the “Basic Assisted Driving” and “Enhanced Assisted Driving” suites, and after activation, the vehicle will be able to complete most of the driving tasks with little intervention from the driver, but the vehicle will still need to be monitored throughout the process. After this adjustment, the original English abbreviation "FSD" and related derivative names will no longer be used, and the entire line of assisted driving products will be unified with "Tesla assisted driving" as the official title. It is reported that this is not the first time that Tesla FSD has changed its name in China's official website. In March last year, Tesla China's official website adjusted the name of the assisted driving system. "Autopilot Autopilot Autopilot Suite" was renamed as "Assisted Driving Suite" and "FSD Intelligent Assisted Driving" was renamed as "Intelligent Assisted Driving" to proactively respond to regulatory requirements and market communication specifications. In 2021, Tesla established a data center in Shanghai to realize local storage of data. In February 2026, Tesla China AI Training Center was put into operation in Lingang, Shanghai, enabling the first localized training of driver assistance systems on Chinese road data. At this point, the complete closed loop of "Data Acquisition — Local Storage - Local Training — Vehicle Deployment — Continuous Iteration" has been completed. It is worth noting that although Tesla has posted on overseas platforms on May 21 to include China in the availability area of the supervised version of FSD ("Tesla Driver Assistance"), this function still needs to wait for subsequent OTA push implementation, and Tesla's CFO mentioned in the first quarter earnings call that the company is maintaining close communication with Chinese regulators and striving to obtain full approval in the third quarter of 2026.
