On October 16, Beijing time, Tesla's new Roadster was officially unveiled. This is the second time the model has been released after its debut in 2017 (which was not yet delivered), nearly nine years later. The new car features a completely revamped exterior and interior design, and comes with a new SpaceX cold gas propulsion system. The vehicle can now be maneuvered like a recovered rocket. It is expected that the new vehicle will go into production at Tesla’s Texas Super Factory around 2028. Elon Musk says the new Roadster surpasses the movies, surpasses imagination, and surpasses humanity, yet it is still created by humans on Earth. The domestic pre-order version and the overseas pre-order version will offer three versions: Performance, Thrust, and Rocket. The Performance version includes active aerodynamics and multi-mode exhaust systems. The Thrust version adds an acceleration propulsor. The Rocket version brings a complete flight system. Official pricing for the model has not yet been announced, only a deposit of $5,000 has been revealed. Pre-orders for Performance are now open in China with a reservation intention fee of 332,000 RMB, which is fully refundable upon booking. At the launch event, the new Roadster can climb almost vertically up a wall and can even stay stuck to the roof. The most amazing thing is that the car can land from the sky onto the ground, just like SpaceX rockets. The stunt also showcased the car's impressive rollover maneuver, which successfully jumped over several vehicles, including a Tesla Semi truck. Tesla claims it can perform any desired flight maneuvers at any time. A new car can adhere the body to the ground at low speeds and allow for smoother airflow at high speeds. Additionally, the new vehicles on site underwent acceleration tests, achieving a 0-96km/h acceleration time of less than a second. Tesla once launched the Roadster on a rocket. Now, Tesla has installed rocket propulsion systems in the Roadster. Add SpaceX-provided components as an option and you can upgrade the road performance for a revolutionary driving experience. The multi-mode blower and ground sealing system can serve as a downforce generator, extracting air from the underside of the car. The adhesive force generated is sufficient for the vehicle to be able to invert and adhere even when stationary. Electric fans and active rear spoilers maximize grip and cornering speed under various conditions, generating significant downforce even when the vehicle is stationary. A new-generation steer-by-wire system delivers fine-grained road feedback across different surfaces. Enable track mode, lowering the body and switching the suspension profiles to switch between high downforce mode and low drag mode according to your track needs. An advanced air ejector is paired with a fully electric actuator, allowing for precise thrust control and rapid, millisecond-level attitude adjustments to help maintain stability in flight. The new Roadster comes equipped with a cooling propulsion system jointly developed by Tesla and SpaceX, which is internally referred to as A71. This system consists of multiple high-pressure gas nozzles, requiring no combustion of fuel. It can assist in enhancing acceleration performance and optimizing cornering ability under extreme conditions, even to the point of briefly lifting the body. Tesla calls this technology "electrofan cars," and its driving effect is similar to a rocket launch. The propulsion system is located at the rear diffuser position, equipped with a fan system that contains about 10 small propellant outlets, with a total gas volume of 600L. Advanced high-pressure gas tanks are used to accommodate it, derived from SpaceX's Falcon 9/Starship attitude control technology. It includes a car-bottom intake, a larger rear exhaust, and multiple electric fans. The airflow can be drawn through channels; between adjacent exhaust outlets, vertical deflector plates are also installed. Extracts air from the underside of the vehicle and exhausts it outward from the rear, promising to significantly improve the vehicle's grip. The exterior features a minimalist design, adopting Tesla's latest design language and the Cyber design style. The car comes with hidden headlights, a lowered bonnet, and almost the same angle as the windshield. Overall, it maintains a sporty silhouette. The side profile features a sloping beltline, showcasing a rugged design, with hidden door handles, muscular appearance, and is paired with lightweight spokes and narrow wheels, ensuring the body structure remains strong during operation. The tail features Tesla’s signature full-width taillight bar, along with embedded aerodynamic structures that conceal the vehicle’s true sharpness. The body white paint with anodized finish draws inspiration from aerospace technologies, which are designed to withstand extreme space environments, offering protection against UV rays and low temperatures. It also provides anti-static and corrosion-resistant properties, used to safeguard rocket casings during both launch and recovery phases. The tinted windows mimic the copper-coated visor of a spacesuit, with a gold-lacquered finish. Matte titanium trim further reinforces the space-age design. The interior features a two-seater layout, with bucket seats in a sporty style that securely holds occupants in their seats during high-speed situations. The steering wheel feels more like a game controller, still with a minimalist design approach and aerospace-grade aesthetic design. The new vehicle adopts lightweight design, with seats integrated into a monocoque with the chassis. It also features wire-steer, wire-braking, and wire-throttle. It also uses gullwing doors. The interior features signature ultra-white trim paired with gray microfiber trim accents. Side bolsters are upholstered in suede leather to enhance the wrap and support. The Y-shaped steering wheel is developed specifically for a steer-by-wire system, paired with a central touchscreen and two small displays upfront to showcase key driving information. Rear manual steering mechanism and fixed seats, whole vehicle lightweighting. Extensive use of lightweight high-strength materials such as magnesium, titanium, and carbon fiber further reduces the vehicle's weight. This makes the Roadster almost instantaneously responsive to the driver's inputs during cross-dimensional driving. In terms of power, the new model will be offered in a base version, as well as a limited-edition special version equipped with SpaceX propulsion systems. The new vehicle features aggressive aerodynamic design to optimize overall downforce. 0-96 km/h fastest acceleration time will be less than 1.6 seconds (Performance), less than 0.9 seconds (Thrust), and less than 0.59 seconds (Rocket). Top speed is over 370 km/h. The industry predicts a production run of around 2,000 units for the new Roadster, to showcase Tesla's strongest engineering capabilities. Production lines for the Model S and Model X have been shut down, with capacity prioritized for Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot. First-generation Roadster was sent to space. Based on the Lotus Elise platform, the first production model from Tesla, it was launched in 2008 and discontinued in 2012 with a total production run of around 2,450 units. The first-generation Roadster was also launched into Earth's orbit aboard the Falcon Heavy rocket. (Sourced by Autohome Qin Chao.)
