Opening up the history of hardcore cross-country development, classic models such as the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco have all adopted a short front suspension body layout without exception. In the past, the old tank 300 was limited to the native body structure, the front axle was rearward, the front was relatively long, and the structure was never able to land. The new tank 300L reconfigured the chassis drastically, greatly increasing the wheelbase by 260mm to 3010mm, while pushing the front axle forward as a whole to create a standard short front suspension body. Many riders see the new car for the first time and think that it is just a "face project" to reproduce the classic off-road appearance. However, according to my observation, this time, the full-dimensional changes to the frame, cabin, and girder space are not simply a compromise for the sake of face value. Combined with the technical logic of the Great Wall's Hi4-Z hybrid architecture, we talked about the engineering considerations behind the short front suspension design of the new tank 300 from three aspects: battery layout, off-road expansion, and power counterweight. First, the underlying core just needs: the short front suspension for the Hi4-Z battery gives up the "gold C position" hybridization is an irreversible trend for hardcore off-roaders, but the traditional girder body is naturally contradicted by the battery layout. In this way, the entire powertrain can be placed before the front axle, and there is complete space under the passenger compartment to arrange the Hi4-Z's large battery. This change not only makes the battery centrally arranged, which greatly improves the feeling of driving stability, but also is completely wrapped by the beams on both sides, which is full of the protection ability of the off-road support. 2. Long-term off-road reservation: The short front suspension is compatible with the front integral hard bridge, and the upper limit of the original factory climbing is widened. For hard-core off-road players, the integral front bridge is the core hardware for rock climbing. The longitudinal arm of a traditional bifurcated arm independent suspension is short in size, while the front integral hard bridge requires a longer guide link and a larger suspension run. This means that the same set of frames can be synchronously adapted to the two sets of chassis configurations of dual-arm independent suspension and front integral hard bridge, which provides a complete hardware foundation for subsequent climbing special versions. At the same time, the short front suspension brings an intuitive geometric parameter boost: the approach angle of the vehicle jumps from the old 33° to 38°. 3. Dual upgrades of power control: the front and middle cabin layout, balancing the counterweight and reserving the potential of the Wrangler, Ford Bronco and other models that take into account both control and off-road, unified use of short front suspension with the front and middle layout of the engine. This reconstruction of the tank 300L is also aimed at this mature mechanical logic. This weight optimization has brought about a full range of dynamic improvements: the body is not easy to drift when driving at high speeds; when flying in the desert, the body vacancy posture is more level, and the four-wheel synchronous landing reduces the impact loss of the frame and suspension; the rolling is more uniform when passing through the mountain, avoiding the control shortboard of the traditional front engine model. 4. Objective dialectics: Short front suspension is not perfect. The two trade-offs must be viewed rationally. There is a trade-off between any change in the chassis architecture. There is also a small compromise in the short front suspension design of the tank 300L: First, the minimum turning radius is slightly increased. The front wheel moves forward and outward as a whole. When turning over in a narrow cell or an old basement, the flexibility is not as good as that of the old model, and the city may need to move the car at a low speed for one more time. Second, the longitudinal angle shrinks slightly. The wheelbase is elongated and the front axle moves forward, and the buffer space in the middle of the chassis is reduced from the ground. In the case of continuous high hump and extreme cross axle road conditions, the risk of rubbing in the middle of the chassis is slightly higher than that of the old short axle. Overall weighed down, these two small sacrifices were exchanged for large-capacity long-range batteries, the ability of the original hard bridge to expand, and the three core enhancements of balanced front and rear weights. This engineering choice is perfectly reasonable for pan-cross-country positioning that takes into account both urban mobility and long-distance travel. Conclusion Many people first saw the short front suspension of the tank 300L, which simply boiled down to "imitating the appearance of the Wrangler". However, after disassembling the complete frame, power, and battery supporting logic, it is not difficult to find that this is a set of chassis reconstruction scheme derived from the inside-out and layers. For all changes made by engineers, the first priority is to adapt the Hi4-Z large-capacity centered battery to solve the inherent contradiction between the hybrid hardcore off-road endurance and the interior space of the vehicle; the second dimension is to reserve the frame hardware space for the previous overall hard bridge version in the future to expand the original climbing capacity; the third layer is to optimize the balance weight of the vehicle to achieve the front and middle power layout, taking into account the high-speed stability of the highway and the reliability of the off-road flying hill. At the moment of comprehensive hybrid transformation of domestic hardcore off-road, the new tank 300 short front suspension design has jumped out of the single idea of "pure mechanical off-road", integrating the three major needs of household, original factory climbing, and balanced dynamic control.
